Prepare recognition for English
On this iPhone requires iOS 26 or later and a compatible device.
Select English as your practice language. Open Settings → Recognition → On this iPhone. If Download and enable appears, use it while connected to Wi-Fi. Wait for Ready and the checkmark beside On this iPhone.
The app checks Apple model availability for American English on your device. If the mode is unavailable or preparation is unfinished, return to setup while connected.
With the Russian learner interface, the same route is Настройки → Распознавание → На этом iPhone; wait for Готово.
A recognition model and a voice do different jobs
Apple’s recognition model turns your spoken attempt into words. A speech voice reads the model phrase to you. Before leaving, check that an English model phrase plays and the voice is available on the device. Prepare both while you have a connection.
Check with one useful phrase

- Turn on Airplane Mode and turn Wi-Fi off.
- Start a new English practice session.
- Listen to the model, hold the microphone and say your answer. Release and check the recognized words.
- If something fails, reconnect and finish preparing the model and voice.
